Guardians of the Thames

Looking for things to do with the kids in Maidenhead? We teach children to love & understand our river

We organise parties for children and educational river based  activities for schools, scouting groups and clubs - 2 to 6 hours.

Our purpose is to help young people from the Thames Valley to discover the history, geology and ecology of our surroundings and understand how the Thames has shaped the lives of those living nearby for generations.

We aim to share our awe, wonderment and respect of the Thames through an experiential day by the river.

Team Paddleboard Maidenhead are some of the most experienced and knowledgeable river goers and have so many stories to share. We combine fun, factual knowledge and physical activities that are suitable and adaptable for young people aged 8 to 18.

Guardians of the Thames can pass their newfound knowledge to friends, family and generations to come. Learning materials for continuing school education are included as well as Guardian of the Thames certificates.

With a ration  of 1 instructor to 4 kids safety  is of our utmost importance. Buoyancy aids and leashes are used throughout the  paddling sessions.

  • Paddleboarding the Thames Valley or local Lake

  • Island Games – physical fun including old and modern games.

  • Thames Topics are woven throughout the day’s activities – all age appropriate and relating to this stretch of river and the Thames Valley:

  • Prehistoric Creatures & Creations

  • Edwardians & Victorians

  • Railway and the River

  • Pollution & Plastics
